AAA Grant Supports Chicago Area High School Students in Financial Literacy
AAA – The Auto Club Group Foundation bestowed a $10,000 grant to support the Asset Builders Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB) for high school students. FICB is an interactive educational game designed to help promote financial literacy and awareness among high school students.
Based in Wisconsin, Asset Builders co-founder Richard Entenmann was working in financial investor protection when he saw the damage that lack of wealth and financial illiteracy was creating for millions of Americans and saw the need for a nonprofit organization that was dedicated to improving financial literacy, leading to the founding of Asset Builders.
“Partnering with Asset Builders advances The Auto Club Group Foundation’s strategic priority of promoting financial literacy in underserved communities” said Molly Hart, spokeswoman for AAA – the Auto Club Group. “Asset Builders has a proven track record of success through its Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl in Wisconsin, and the Foundation was enthusiastic about supporting the expansion of this impactful opportunity to Chicago area public schools.”
High school students from Cary-Grove High School in Cary, and Chicago Public Schools Collins Academy, Kenwood Academy, and Whitney Young participated in the Bowl. Using a quiz show format, the FICB challenges high school students and tests their knowledge about personal finance, business, economics and current events. In the spirit of competition, the game features teams of students who face off against one another using a tournament bracket structure, with the final two teams playing for “the Cup” and bragging rights in their respective regions. Whitney Young students won the competition.
“While working at the US Securities and Exchange Commission, I saw the damage that financial illiteracy was creating for many Americans and realized the importance of better education,” said Richard Entenmann of Asset Builders. “The goal was simple—to educate and prepare individuals to avoid financial pitfalls and predatory practices, as well to show a better way to create personal wealth and economic stability.”
Entenmann worked in close partnership with Chicago-based Financial Pathways, LLC, the Chicago Public Schools, and other Illinois schools, to bring the Challenge Bowl to Illinois.
