AAA: Michigan Gas Prices Continue to Increase

The Michigan state average is up 6 cents compared to last week

DEARBORN, Mich., (February 24, 2020) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 6 cents compared to last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average price of $2.47 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 4 cents more than this time last month and about 3 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $37 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of $7 from when prices were their highest last July.

In its petroleum report for last week, the Energy Information Administration revealed that total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 2 million bbl to 259.1 million bbl, while demand increased from 8.72 million b/d to 8.92 million b/d. The drop in supply as demand has increased contributed to higher pump prices this week.

"If these trends continue, motorists are likely to continue seeing prices fluctuate as the winter driving season nears its end," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit's current average is $2.46 per gallon, 7 cents more than last week's average and 4 cents more than this time last year.
