WHY:

This ‘Tow to Go’ press event will spotlight the dangers of impaired driving and the safe alternatives that help drivers get home responsibly.

• Tow to Go is active from 6 p.m. Monday, March 16, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 18.

What is Tow to Go? Tow to Go runs during most major holidays, giving impaired drivers and their vehicles a free ride home when they do not have a safe alternative. For more than 25 years, AAA-The Auto Club Group has delivered this lifesaving service, taking nearly 30,000 impaired drivers off the road.

AAA is proud to serve as a final line of defense, protecting lives by preventing impaired driving before it starts. Our message is simple: plan a safe ride home before drinking or using drugs.

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching, it’s critical that drivers make responsible choices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, St. Patrick’s Day is among the deadliest holidays on U.S. roads. In 2023, more than 12,000 people were killed in drunk‑driving crashes — tragedies that could have been prevented if impaired drivers had found a safe ride home. Alcohol, drugs, and even certain medications can impair driving and put everyone at risk.

The Tow to Go Press Event will bring together AAA-The Auto Club Group, Savannah’s Mayor Dr. Van R. Johnson II, Powell Harrelson from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Captain Crews of the Georgia State Patrol, and Lisa Sampson with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
