AAA Urges Caution Ahead of Lollapalooza in Chicago

AAA offers safety advice for navigating roads, crowds, and confusion

With hundreds of people expected to descend on Chicago for Lollapalooza, AAA – The Auto Club Group is urging locals and visitors alike to plan ahead and make safety a top priority.

“Many drivers and pedestrians may not know the local roads, which can lead to unpredictable movements,” said Molly Hart, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “AAA encourages drivers to arrive early, slow down, and watch for pedestrians. Those on foot should remember to use sidewalks, crosswalks, and put their cellphones down so they don’t wander into harm's way.”

Driver Safety Guidelines

  • Use navigation apps—enter your destination before driving; let a passenger assist if possible
  • Drive slowly—crowds and foot traffic could lead to unexpected pedestrian crossings
  • Expect delays—give yourself extra time to reach venues before (kickoff) or showtime

Parking Safety Checklist

  • Choose well-lit lots and garages
  • Lock all doors and close windows
  • Remove spare keys and valuables from sight

Pedestrian Safety Advice

  • Stick to sidewalks; if none are available, walk facing traffic on the left side
  • Use crosswalks and make eye contact before crossing
  • Avoid distractions—put the phone away and watch for moving vehicles
  • Never assume drivers see you—wait until cars fully stop before crossing

“Safety at a large event is a shared responsibility,” added Hart. “By staying aware of our surroundings, respecting traffic rules, and looking out for one another, we can all contribute to a secure and enjoyable experience.”

For future events like this, AAA offers the following travel tips:

  • Book early and consider bundling flights, hotels, and car rentals to save money
