Celebrate National Plan for Vacation Day with AAA

Planning a Trip in Uncertain Times

Today is National Plan for Vacation Day, a day dedicated to encouraging Americans to plan their vacation days for the year.

While much of the country continues to face rising COVID-19 case numbers and travel restrictions, National Plan for Vacation Day is a chance to do what is safe and productive: plan.

National Plan for Vacation Day encourages Americans to plan their vacation days for the whole year, at the start of the year, because research shows that planners use nearly 13 of their earned days off compared to non-planners who use just over eight days on average. In previous years, Americans did not fully utilize their paid time off for mundane reasons, such as not planning far enough in advance or being unable to tear themselves away from work. In 2020, however, it was the pandemic that prevented people from traveling.

"Polls show us that 63 percent of Americans say they desperately need a vacation after all the stress and uncertainty of this past year," said spokesperson Meredith Terpstra, spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group. "With everything that has happened in the last 12 months, National Plan for Vacation Day is the perfect opportunity to reignite a love of travel and look forward to better days filled with wonderful experiences."

AAA Travel Advisors would be happy to talk to anyone about planning travel, even if choosing to wait until things normalize a bit more before you commit to a trip. As travel experts, they can help navigate health and safety protocols. When a full re-opening becomes possible, a surge in demand for travel is expected. Whether daydreaming, planning, booking or traveling, AAA continues to urge Americans to adhere to healthy travel practices and follow the CDC guidelines. The U.S. Travel Association's Travel Confidently toolkit also has a wealth of resources and guidance for safe and healthy travel.
