“Wisconsin drivers are entering the most dangerous time of year for deer collisions,” said Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Drivers often have only seconds to react when a deer enters the roadway. Slowing down, scanning the roadside and staying focused behind the wheel can help reduce the risk of a serious crash.”

Why Are Deer Crashes More Common in the Fall?

Deer-related crashes are among the most common wildlife incidents on Wisconsin roadways. The risk increases during the fall breeding season when deer become more active and more likely to cross roads unexpectedly.

Drivers traveling on rural roads, wooded corridors and two-lane highways should use extra caution, particularly at dawn and dusk when deer are most active.

More than three-quarters of vehicles involved in deer crashes are passenger vehicles, SUVs and vans. Waukesha County recorded the most crashes in 2025 with 1,010, followed by Washington (867), Sheboygan (830), Dane (792) and St. Croix (769).

What Should You Do if a Deer Runs into the Road?

“One of the biggest mistakes drivers make is swerving to avoid a deer,” Jarmusz said. “While the instinct is understandable, leaving the roadway can result in more severe crashes involving trees, guardrails, utility poles or other vehicles.”

AAA recommends motorists:

• Slow down, especially on rural roads and in areas marked with deer-crossing signs.
• Remain extra vigilant at dawn and dusk.
• Use high beams whenever safe and legal.
• Watch for groups of deer. If one crosses the road, others are likely nearby.
• Brake firmly if a collision appears unavoidable.
• Stay in your lane and avoid sudden steering maneuvers.
• Avoid swerving sharply, which can increase the risk of a more serious crash.

"If a deer suddenly appears in your path, your safest response is usually to brake firmly and maintain control of the vehicle," Jarmusz said. "Many of the most severe crashes occur when drivers swerve and strike another vehicle or roadside object."

“Tennessee drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump, with gas prices down 10 cents in just the past week,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “The big question now is whether that relief continues, and a lot will depend on what happens with oil prices in the weeks ahead.”

Tennessee drivers are now seeing gas prices $1.14 more expensive compared to last year, which adds roughly $17 to the cost of filling a 15-gallon gas tank. The average Tennessee driver is currently paying nearly $58 to fill their gas tank. At this time last year, the average cost for a fill-up was around $40.

National Gas Prices

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is down six cents from last week at $4.29. Gas prices aren’t budging much as crude oil prices remain high, once again nearing $100 per barrel. The national average has stayed above $4 per gallon since late July and is currently more than a dollar higher than it was this time last year. The fall months typically bring lower gas prices, but volatility in the oil market has led to seasonal record highs this year. 

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased last week from 8.76 million barrels per day to 8.40 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 204.7 million barrels to 208.3 million. Gasoline production decreased from 9.34 million barrels per day to 9.23 million barrels. 

National Oil Market Dynamics

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 95 cents to settle at $95.09 per barrel. The EIA reports that U.S. crude oil inventories decreased 8.6 million barrels to 415.6 million barrels, 3% below the five-year average.

As e-bikes and e-scooters become more common among children and teens, AAA is reminding families that helmets remain one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury.

According to a recent AAA survey:

·       66% of adults have seen children riding e-bikes or e-scooters without a helmet

·       More than half (59%) believe not enough riders wear helmets

·       83% support helmet requirements for e-bike and e-scooter riders

These findings come as health care providers across the country report a sharp rise in injuries involving young e-bike and e-scooter riders.

Why Are Doctors Concerned About E-Bike Injuries?

According to a recent medical study, injuries involving e-bikes and e-scooters among children and adolescents increased 7.5-fold between 2023 and 2026. The analysis examined more than 12,000 pediatric emergency department visits and found that more than a third of injured patients suffered head or neck injuries, while nearly 7% sustained traumatic brain injuries.

"Many parents see e-bikes and e-scooters as just another version of a bicycle, but some of these devices can reach much higher speeds,” said Brian Ortner, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “With higher speeds come greater risks. That's why it's so important for riders to wear a helmet that fits properly and is designed for the type of device they're riding."

As e-bikes and e-scooters become more common among children and teens, AAA is reminding families that helmets remain one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury.

According to a recent AAA survey:

·       66% of adults have seen children riding e-bikes or e-scooters without a helmet

·       More than half (59%) believe not enough riders wear helmets

·       83% support helmet requirements for e-bike and e-scooter riders

These findings come as health care providers across the country report a sharp rise in injuries involving young e-bike and e-scooter riders.

Why Are Doctors Concerned About E-Bike Injuries?

According to a recent medical study, injuries involving e-bikes and e-scooters among children and adolescents increased 7.5-fold between 2023 and 2026. The analysis examined more than 12,000 pediatric emergency department visits and found that more than a third of injured patients suffered head or neck injuries, while nearly 7% sustained traumatic brain injuries.

"Many parents see e-bikes and e-scooters as just another version of a bicycle, but some of these devices can reach much higher speeds,” said Brian Ortner, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “With higher speeds come greater risks. That's why it's so important for riders to wear a helmet that fits properly and is designed for the type of device they're riding."

The AAA Consumer Pulse™ Survey was conducted online than included 400 residents from Nebraska and 400 residents from Iowa from April 17 – 26, 2026. Survey results have a maximum margin of error of ± 4.9% points. Responses are weighted by age and gender to ensure a reliable and accurate representation of the adult population (18+).

DEARBORN, Mich., (October 19, 2026) - Gas prices in Michigan are down 15 cents from last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.51 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 38 cents less than this time last month but still $1.71 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $68 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $17 from 2025's highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 8.76 million barrels per day to 8.40 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 204.7 million barrels to 208.3 million. Gasoline production decreased from 9.34 million barrels per day to 9.23 million barrels.

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 95 cents to settle at $95.09 per barrel. The EIA reports that U.S. crude oil inventories decreased 8.6 million barrels to 415.6 million barrels, 3% below the five-year average.

"Gas prices fell 15 cents this week, but Michigan drivers are still feeling the strain at the pump," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "The statewide average remains $1.71 higher than this time last year.” 

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $4.54 per gallon, about 6 cents less than last week’s average but still $1.72 more than this same time last year.

The U.S. price for crude rose 10% last week, climbing from $91.85/b the previous week to $101.41/b on Friday. A $10 increase in crude oil prices could translate to a 25-cent increase at the pump.

Escalating tensions in the Middle East disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, while renewed attacks on Russian energy infrastructure threatened additional supplies. A sharp decline in U.S. crude inventories added further upward pressure on prices.

A new AAA survey found that drivers understand the risks of being stranded at the roadside. More than half (56%) of Floridians said being struck by another vehicle would be their biggest concern if their vehicle became disabled.

"It's easy to think a roadside stop is someone else's problem," said Jenkins. "But every driver could end up in that situation. That's why slowing down and moving over is more than a legal requirement. It's a responsibility we share."

Recognizing the dangers faced by stranded motorists, many states have expanded their Slow Down, Move Over laws to include disabled vehicles and other roadside situations.

Know Your State's Move Over Law

All 50 states have Slow Down, Move Over laws requiring drivers to move over or reduce speed when approaching vehicles stopped on the roadside. However, the specific vehicles covered and speed requirements vary by state.

In Florida, drivers must move over for all stopped vehicles displaying flashing or hazard lights, including law enforcement, EMS, fire, construction, and people with disabled vehicles. If changing lanes is not possible, motorists must reduce speed and proceed with caution.
