Florida Gas Prices Averaged $3.10/g Last Week

Florida gas prices seesawed again last week. The state average went from $3.04 per gallon on Monday, back up to $3.18/g by Thursday. On Sunday, Florida's gas price had fallen back down to $3.10/g.

These price swings have become pretty common. Since September 2024, Florida's average price has bounced between $2.96/g and $3.30/g - with drivers paying an average price of $3.11/g. 

"Florida gas prices are poised to move lower this week," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. "Oil prices dropped last week on concerns that OPEC and its allies could add more oil to the market, at a time when the global economy braces for a potential slowdown - which typically results in lower fuel demand."

OPEC+ reportedly plans to bring 2.2 million oil barrels per day back to the market by November. The effort is allegedly designed to sink oil prices in effort to regain market share, while also punishing Iraq and Kazakhstan for not complying with production quotas.

Friday, the U.S. price for oil was $58.29 per barrel. That's down $4.73 (-8%) from the previous week. Wednesday's closing price of $58.21/b is the lowest since April 2021. During that time, Florida's average gas price was around $2.85 per gallon.

1. Combine errands to limit driving time.
2. Drive conservatively. Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, which reduces fuel economy.
3. Remove excess weight in your vehicle. Every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle improves fuel economy by 1-2 percent.
4. Shop around for the best gas prices in your community by using the AAA mobile app. 
5. Pay with cash. Some retailers charge more per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
