Florida Gas Prices Sink to 5-Month Low

Florida gas prices declined 12 cents last week. Sunday's state average was $2.92 per gallon. That's the lowest daily average price since May.

Florida's average gas price is: 

• 12 cents less than a week ago
• 7 cents less than a month ago
• 18 cents less than last year
   

It costs $44 to fill a 15-gallon tank with regular unleaded gasoline. That's $2.50 less than last year.  

"Florida gas prices slipped to the lower end of the 30-cent range, which it has fluctuated within for the past year," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. “Global fuel prices are facing downward pressure on reports that global fuel supplies are outpacing demand.”

The U.S. price of crude oil has declined by a total of 10% over the past two weeks. Last week, WTI slid below $60 per barrel. Friday's closing price of $58.90/b was nearly $2/b (-3%) less than the week before, and the lowest daily settlement since May.

Last week, the EIA reported a significant build in domestic fuel inventories, indicating that supply is outpacing demand. As production levels from the U.S., Canada, and Brazil remain strong, OPEC+ is considering boosting output in November.

1. Combine errands to limit driving time.
2. Drive conservatively. Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, which reduces fuel economy.
3. Remove excess weight in your vehicle. Every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle improves fuel economy by 1-2 percent.

5. Pay with cash. Some retailers charge more per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
