Gas Prices Edge Up Across Georgia

Ongoing fighting in the Middle East is driving oil prices higher, which is pushing gas prices up. However, Georgia’s gas tax suspension is helping slow how quickly prices are rising. The average price for regulargas is now $3.71 per gallon, up from last week, and prices may continue to change in the coming weeks.

“Rising crude oil prices fueled by ongoing geopolitical tensions are continuing to push pump prices higher,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The AutoClub Group. “While these global factors are largely outside of drivers’ control, Governor Kemp’s suspension of the state gas tax is helping ease some of the pressure for Georgia drivers. Still, with elevated oil prices and strengthening seasonal demand, drivers should expect continued fluctuations at the pump.”

Compared to recent benchmarks:

• 13 cents higher than last week
• 54 cents higher than last month
• 66 cents higher than this time last year

For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost now comes to approximately $55.65.

National Gas Prices Push Higher Amid Market Pressure

The national average price for regular gasoline rose above $4 this week,reaching $4.11 per gallon. That’s 13 cents higher than last week and 86 cents more than a month ago. Surging crude oil prices, now above $100 per barrel, driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz are putting upward pressure on gas prices, similar to conditions that kept prices elevated through much of 2022.

Electric:

The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same this past week at 41cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’sTripTik Travel Planner.

Regional Prices:

The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Atlanta ($3.65), Athens ($3.63), and Gainesville ($3.62).

The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.45), Brunswick ($3.44), and Albany ($3.41).
