Michigan Gas Prices Increase Slightly

DEARBORN, Mich., (March 16, 2026) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 4 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $3.59 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 61 cents more than this time last month and  55 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $54 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $4 from 2025's highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.29 million b/d to 9.24 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 253.1 million barrels to 249.5 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.9 million barrels per day.

At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI rose $2.68 to settle at $98.71 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories increased by 3.8 million barrels from the previous week. At 443.1 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 2% below the five-year average for this time of year.

"Michigan motorists have seen pump prices rise over the past two weeks as crude oil costs continue climbing," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. "The good news is that while prices are still up, the pace of those increases has noticeably slowed in the past week."

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.64 per gallon, about 15 cents more than last week’s average and 60 cents more than this same time last year.

• Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
• Remove excess weight in your vehicle.
• Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.

Gas Price Survey Methodology

Every day up to 130,000 stations in the nation and more than 4,200 stations in Michigan are surveyed based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for unmatched statistical reliability. All average retail prices in this report are for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline.
