Michigan Gas Prices Increase Slightly

DEARBORN, Mich., (December 15, 2025) - Gas prices in Michigan are up 3 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $2.85 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 19 cents less than this time last month and 20 cents less than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $42 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $15 from 2024's highest price last July.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.32 million b/d to 8.45 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 214.4 million barrels to 220.8 million. Gasoline production decreased, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.

At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI rose 21 cents to settle at $58.46 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 1.8 million barrels from the previous week. At 425.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.

AAA is forecasting nearly 4 million Michiganders will travel over the 13-day year-end holiday period beginning December 20 and ending January 1. With 3.5 million Michigan travelers expected to hit the roads, drivers can expect lower gas prices compared to last Christmas, when the state average was $3.06.

"Michigan drivers are seeing a small rise in average gas prices, with some cities paying more and others paying less," said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased slightly. Metro Detroit’s current average is $2.86 per gallon, about 3 cents less than last week’s average and 16 cents less than this same time last year.

• Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.

Gas Price Survey Methodology

Every day up to 130,000 stations in the nation and more than 4,200 stations in Michigan are surveyed based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for unmatched statistical reliability. All average retail prices in this report are for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline.
