TN Gas Prices Up Two Cents
Tennessee is the 7th least expensive market in the nation
NASHVILLE, Tenn., (November 25, 2024) — Gas prices across the state are up slightly as 1.8 million Tennesseans are expected to take a road trip this week for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $2.71 which is 9 cents less expensive than one month ago and 17 cents less than one year ago.
"Gas prices are up ever so slightly from last week, but, we are seeing prices that are around 17 cents cheaper than last year," said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "It's likely that drivers can expect to pay less this year for their Thanksgiving road trips compared to last year. Barring any major swings in pricing, Tennessee drivers will see the cheapest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2020."
AAA Will Rescue More Than 570,000 Stranded Drivers During Thanksgiving Holiday
An estimated 71.7 million Americans are forecast to take a Thanksgiving road trip. Of those, AAA expects more than 570,000 to have some type of car trouble. The three most common calls AAA receives are for flat tires, dead batteries, and lockouts.
“Don’t let car trouble be the reason you don’t make it to Thanksgiving dinner,” said Megan Cooper, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Before setting out for your holiday road trip, get a full vehicle inspection to ensure everything is in proper working order.”

National Gas Prices
At the pump, the national average for a gallon of gas dropped two cents since last week to $3.05 – matching the January 2024 low. There are now 28 states with averages below $3.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand plunged from 9.38 million b/d last week to 8.41. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks rose slightly from 206.9 million barrels to 208.9, while gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.3 million barrels daily.
Today’s national average for a gallon of gas is $3.05, 9 cents less than a month ago and 20 cents less than a year ago.
National Oil Market Dynamics
At the close of Wednesday’s formal trading session, WTI fell 52 cents to settle at $68.87 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 0.5 million barrels from the previous week. At 430.3 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year.
