AAA Provides Donation to Meet Transportation Needs in Memphis

Midsouth Hope Garage provides vehicles to those in need

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (June 28, 2023) — AAA recently provided a donation to a local nonprofit serving vulnerable populations in the greater Memphis area by providing free vehicles.

The MidSouth Hope Garage accepts donated vehicles and works with a network of volunteers to complete repairs, then gifts the vehicles back to recipients in the local community. The garage serves the vulnerable in the greater Memphis area including refugees, trafficking victims, homeless families, missionaries, women in crisis pregnancies and domestic abuse victims.

"The garage was created to serve vulnerable populations in the greater Memphis area by providing a free vehicle to applicants to help them keep families together, to escape the cycle of poverty or unhealthy dependence on substances and relationships," said Joanna Murray, Co-Founder of MidSouth Hope Garage.

A monthly service day brings together volunteers who help make all the needed repairs on the vehicles as well as clean and detail each vehicle. AAA's donation will be used to provide the necessary parts to fix vehicles that have already been donated to get them ready to be gifted back to the local community. The only requirements for applicants is to have a valid driver's license and a referral from another nonprofit, employer, or church in the Memphis area.

"We recognize the impact that personal transportation can have on someone's life. It can provide greater independence and help them reach greater opportunities," said Stephanie Milani, Tennessee Public Affairs Director for AAA - The Auto Club Group. "The services they're able to provide to their local community are an invaluable asset."

Last year, the MidSouth Hope Garage gifted 15 vehicles. This year they are on pace to give away 30 vehicles. To apply for a vehicle, donate a vehicle, or volunteer with Midsouth Hope Garage, visit https://www.midsouthhopegarage.org/.
